Fill My Glass

I painted Fill My Glass in my home studio after finishing a series of heavier, more intense works. I wanted to make something softer, something warm, feminine, and beautiful. I kept thinking about a tablescape I had seen: porcelain, amber glass, white flowers, candlelight.

As I worked, the painting became about my friendships, especially the ones held through distance. The glass started to represent both the screen of a phone and the ritual of finally sitting together, drink in hand, talking for hours. The crystal form that ties everything together came from a Steuben Glass book in my studio. My grandfather was an engraver there, so it felt like bringing something personal, almost inherited, into the piece.
