Rotting

A lot of my subject matter comes from my inner world. I’m always trying to translate something internal into something visible. This piece is a personal illustration of life with chronic migraine. The blue and black are colors I see when my eyes are closed. The rotting textures illustrate what it feels like to sit lifeless while life passes you by, rotting in bed or on a couch in pain and unable to move, sometimes “frozen”. The face and hand are my own, helpless and unmoving but still alive and colorful. This is the darkest place I could draw from, and symbolizes the impermanence of life, melting away into nothingness and being conscious and aware of the wasted time and longing for a past version of myself.
